PDP challenges Sheriff to come clean on alleged $1m donation from APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has reiterated a claim that the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party is being sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sustain the party’s quest for a one-party state in Nigeria.

The PDP in a statement on Tuesday alleged that “Senator Sheriff and his cohorts’ receipt of $1 million from the APC to organise a convention and the open support of the group by some elements in the APC, is enough to show where they belong.”

In the statement by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Jackson Adebayo, the party said “Senator Sheriff’s group can best be described as ‘APC Two’ while Chief Odigie Oyegun leads the ‘APC One’.”

Adebayo said “it was strange that a group of people, who are laying claim to leadership of the PDP, the main opposition party in the country, have not uttered a word against the bad policies of the APC-led federal government.

“They are going about claiming that they love PDP and their actions are informed by their desire to strengthen the party. How do you strengthen an opposition party when you are more or less an ally of the ruling party?

“You rejoiced when PDP lost governorship elections in Ondo and Edo States, yet you are claiming to love the party, how sensible can that be?

“You are claiming that you want PDP to return to power in 2019, yet, you are planning a convention to be sponsored by the APC with as much as $1 million, how do you reconcile that?”

The PDP in Ekiti State challenged the Senator Sheriff group to tell Nigerians, especially supporters of the PDP what the end result of any convention sponsored with $1 million from the APC will be.
