Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti Central Senatorial District has denied endorsing any candidate for the chairmanship position, ahead of the party’s congress coming up in the state.
Describing as untrue the reported adoption of a particular candidate, some leaders of the party from the senatorial district, in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune, on Wednesday, said doing such was undemocratic.
They alleged that it was the unilateral, undemocratic, endorsement of the PDP candidate that caused the party’s failure in the 2018 governorship election and the subsequent House of Assembly election of 2019 in the state.

Pointing fingers to a former governor of the state for the alleged imposition, the PDP leaders declared: “No one person can impose a candidate on the party. It will be counterproductive and an effort in futility.
“We the following undersigned leaders of the Ekiti Central Senatorial District of PDP wish to assure all aspirants to the various positions to go about their campaigns.
“No one will be stopped from exercising their franchise in undue favor of another. The so-called adopted aspirant should learn from the past and continue his campaign.”
They admonished the former governor to exercise restraint and tow the path of decency by not causing further fracture to the party, adding that his alleged continuous desecration of the platform that made him governor twice amounted to political ingratitude.
Signatories to the statement included a former deputy governor of the state, Dr Sikiru Lawal, Honourables Adeyemi Samuel, Lati Ajijola, Posi Omodara, and Alhaji Tajudeen Arowolo.
Others included Dr Tope Aluko, Honourables Yemi Arokodare, Akutupu Afolayan, Chief Mike Omoleye, Honourable Kehinde Odebunmi, Chief Awise, Chief R. A. Agbaje, Honourable Afolabi Akanni, and Honourable Bobby Jeje.
