PDP accuses APC of buying PVCs in Benue

THE Peoples Democratic Party in Benue has accused the All Progressives Congress in the state of allegedly buying Permanent Voters Card from the unsuspecting public.

The chairman of PDP in Iwayam Ward, Awaji Annex in Konshisha local government area of the state Mr Alaaga Akav made the allegation that one Terver Ankyembe, a member of APC in the ward was buying the PVC.

The PDP ward chairman said that the suspect was caught with suspected booklets of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) forms with which he was registering gullible electorate and retrieving their PVCs for N200.00 (two hundred naira).

According to him, “I was about going to market when I saw a large number of persons gathered in my council ward. I left for the market but someone later alerted me of what was happening.

“I hurriedly went back to the scene where I saw Terver Ankyembe in my ward buying off PVCs from our people and giving them N200.00 in return.

“When I asked what he was doing with booklets of INEC forms he said it was an assignment given to him from Makurdi to register voters.

“I forcefully collected the forms from him and he ran away. I heard that he is hiding in Aliade at the moment. But I know him, he is from our area and he is a floor member of APC in my ward.”

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Dr Don Korihum also told newsmen that the government got a report that a member of the opposition went to Konshisha local government area of the state on Sunday buying the PVC from the people at N200.00.

Korihum said that the ward chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in Konshisha reported the case which had also been reported to the Divisional Police Officer at the local government.

Reacting, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Mr James Ornguga said that the party had not sent anyone on an errand.

“APC has not sent anyone on an errand, our party is confident of winning the coming elections because we have gone round to campaign to them and they have promised to vote us, so the party will not do such unholy things.”

Also reacting, the state’s Public Relations Officer of INEC, Mr Andyer Terkaa said, “I am yet to receive any official report to that effect and nobody in Konshisha has reported that some INEC forms in the area had gone missing.

“I don’t know how anybody can get INEC forms, so it is possible that people can use fake forms to cheat unsuspecting members of the public.

“Moreover we have not gotten any information from the Electoral Officer in Konshisha that anything was missing from what she has in her store or what has been given to her.”

At the time of filing this report, the spokesmen of the Police in the state, DSP, Moses Yamu said he was making efforts to find out the claim.
