Pastor strangulates wife in Rivers over school fees

Pastor Chris Amadi, of Shalom Mercy Ministry, was on Tuesday arrested as he attempted to escape after allegedly strangulating his wife Solution Onyebuchi-Amadi.

The incident was reported to have happened at their residence at Mbodo, Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The victim, Solution Onyebuchi-Amadi, who is also a pastor in the same place of worship, a new generation church in the area lost her life following a disagreement that ensued between them over the payment of school fees of some pupils in her school, Solution International School, Mbodo, Aluu.

According to reports, trouble started when Solution confronted Amadi on why he drove some pupils of her school away from the classroom over failure to pay their school fees without first checking their records with her.

Solution’s elder brother, Odinaka Opurum, said his now-deceased sister felt embarrassed when the affected parents started calling to complain about her husband’s action.

“The husband went to the school on Tuesday, November 9 and started driving pupils away for allegedly failing to pay school fees. When parents now called the wife to ask why she drove their kids away even after paying, she appealed they should not be angry that she will find out from her husband.

“When she got to the house, they started quarrelling again and the husband started beating her. He then started to strangle her to the point when she collapsed and became unconscious.

“When he saw that she was no longer breathing, he rushed her to a clinic close to their house, the clinic confirmed her dead and referred him to UPTH to be sure. Instead of taking her to UPTH as they advised, he took her to the house, covered her with wrapper, packed some clothes in a bag, locked all the doors and attempted to run away.”

Her brother also said the incident was not the first time the Amadi would beat his sister. He said it has been recurring and his sister out of love and as the marriage Counselor in their church decided to endure in order not to set a bad example for young girls.

The marriage between the Pastor Amadi and Solution which was solemnized in 2012 was blessed with children, two boys and two girls.

When contacted, spokesman to the state police command, Nnamdi Ononi said he was yet to receive an official report of the incident, but said it has been trending.

“That incident has been trending, but I am yet to get a confirmation from the police division in the area. But as soon as I get anything I will let you know,” Omoni added.
