People suspected to be thugs of a political party, on Monday, during election campaign, attacked a woman, Mrs Hamdalat Ayinde, at Saje area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Metro learnt that the motorcycle on which the woman rode from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba area of the town, ran into the campaign train of the party, ahead of next Saturday’s local government and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) election.
The thugs reportedly descended on the motorcycle rider and the woman who was in purdah, and attacked them.
Speaking with Metro, husband of the victim, Mr Abdul-Akeem, said he and his wife had gone different ways to source for money before he was informed of the incident.
He said “our first born died in the hospital and FMC charged us N116,000. We were struggling to source for the money and had to go different ways to do so.
“I was later called that my wife was attacked at Saje area and on getting there, she had been harassed, as I met her naked, but we couldn’t approach the thugs because they were armed with cutlass.
“Some of the thugs later escaped in a Sport Utility Vehicle, but we were able to catch one of them. We took him to the police station, but to our dismay, the other people later appeared at the police station and they were all released.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying the matter was being addressed by the police.
