According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Wole Oladimeji, the deputy speaker said that, leaving politics with charlatans is the bane of underdevelopment in Nigeria, therefore, engineers should participate in politics so that they could put their wealth of experience to bear on the growth of the nation, he argued.
Hon Lasun also stated further that Society of Engineer should make themselves relevant in the nation’s building and the only to do this is by involving in politics and governance.
“I urge you the engineers not to leave politics in the hands of charlatans, it is in the interest of the nation that the society be more active in politics”.
“I appeal to you to always stand by your point and what you believe in especially in your area of specialization so that society can take engineers more seriously. Please for the sake of generation yet unborn maintain your stand and help re-engineer the nation through your experience,” he stated.
“I am part of you and I will always protect the interest of the profession. On the Bill before the House, I will ensure the passage before June this year ”
Deputy Speaker, however, promised that the amendment is going to be attended to expeditiously, adding that by June the bill would ready for assent by Mr President.
Earlier in his speech, Engr Kashim Ali President of the Council for Regulation of Engineering Nigeria (COREN) stated that the society is proud to have one of them as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
They promised to give him maximum support since he is one of them, adding that the society is ready to work with his office in making good laws for good governance.
