Panic in Warri as gas plant’s explosion injures one

There was a mild pandemonium at about 7:00p.m on Monday in Warri when a gas plant exploded and injured one person identified as Ohis Eruaga.

The gas plant, identified as RMC Cooking Gas Plant, is located at Ileleji Street, off Fani-Kayode road in the heart of Warri.

It was gathered that but for the swift efforts of men of the Delta State Fire Service who salvaged the situation at about 7:30pm, much human and material damage would have been incurred.

TribuneOnline was informed that as of the time of filing this report, the gas plant was still leaking.

The explosion reportedly sent jitters into the spines of members of church around the area as well as residents as they scampered for safety.

Meanwhile, the victim, 27-year-old Ohis Eruaga, while chatting with journalists, disclosed that he was transferring gas from a tanker into the gas plant when the hose pulled off leading to the explosion.

While expatiating on the cause of the explosion, he said: “I cannot tell you what caused the explosion but all I know is that the hose pull off and I am seriously injured.”

However, a staff of the gas plant declined to speak with journalists over the incident.

He even denied knowledge of any explosion in the yard of the gas plant.

“There was no explosion here. If you have anything.

I cannot disclosed my name because am only an employee in this place and am not in position to speak with you.

My boss will soon be here,” he retorted.

Officials of the Delta State Fire Service could not be reached for comments as they had left before Metro got to the scene.
