There was pandemonium at the Ondo State Specialists Hospital in Akure, Ondo state capital, over the missing corpse of a dead baby in the morgue of the hospital.
It was gathered that the newborn baby and his mother were brought dead to the hospital from the police hospital, Akure and their remains were deposited at the mortuary of the government-owned hospital on Wednesday.
A family source explained that the family of the deceased were surprised to meet only the remains of the mother on Saturday when they came for the mother and her baby but the deceased baby was missing.
The source said, ” When the family of the deceased got to the hospital mortuary today ( Saturday), to collect the remains of the dead, they only saw the body of the mother and the placenta but they could not find the baby. The mortuary attendants could not explain how it happened. ”
He added that the family members of the deceased almost caused crisis in the hospital premises following the incident, but the family of the deceased reported the matter at the police station.

Speaking on the development, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, who described the incident as unfortunate said the matter had been handed over to the state police command for onward investigation.
Adegbenro said ” We have handed the mortuary attendants to the police to do the investigation. We will be waiting for their investigation,”
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident, said the Command had begun an investigation into the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of the corpse of the newborn baby. n the morgue of the Ondo Specialists Hospital.
Joseph said the hospital officials would be invited for questioning but nobody had yet been arrested over the incident, as at the time of this report.
He said ” We have not made any arrest for now but we have commenced an investigation into the matter. We will invite the workers of the hospital, especially those working at the mortuary section,”
