Published by

In its effort to reduce carbon emissions and create cleaner air in school environments, Pan-African Capital Holdings, a proprietary investment company, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Pan-African Capital Foundation, has commenced tree planting in Lagos schools.

The tree planting which took place weekend at Ireti Senior Junior Grammar school, Ikoyi, Lagos was not only to help beautify the school environment but to create healthier air in the school.

Speaking about the initiative, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Omolola Ojo, said that if Nigeria must address global warming, tree planting was the way forward.

According to her, trees afford cleaner air, provide and beautify the environment.

Her words: “For instance, there is oxygen that it provides to the environment. And of course, there’s also an amount of beautification that it gives to an environment.”

She said that Pan-African Capital Foundation was created to act on behalf of the holdings group to give back to the society and empower the community and improve things.

“Our focus areas include health, education, economic empowerment and environment. And of course, for today, we are here for the Green Wells Initiative, which is where tree planting meets clean water.

“And so, the aim of the Green Wells Initiative is to donate infant trees to secondary schools and of course, provide clean water to communities,” she added that the Ireti school is the first phase of the project,” Ojo said.

Representative of the Ministry of Education District 3, Mr.Olubodun, described that initiative as laudable.

While educating the students on the need to take proper care of the trees, he advised the principals of the schools to appoint students who will be in charge of the trees.

The Principal of the Senior School, Mrs Babafemi Olapeju, lauded the initiative and expressed appreciation to the foundation for remembering the school, both Ireti Junior and Ireti Senior High School.

“We appreciate your vision, and we pray that you will surely accomplish it.

“We promise that by the time you come back to the school, you will have seen the plants being grown. There won’t be anything that will disturb it because we are going to monitor it and take care of the environment,” Olapeju said.
