Oyo’s new land policies

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi

LAND is one of the most valuable assets all over the world. Oyo State is blessed with  a large landmass. But until recently, getting a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) was an issue for a lot of people .

That’s why I am very happy with the Oyo State government’s introduction of a new electronic system.

This system will allow all prospective landowners like me and those who already own one (land) to get their C of Os in just 60 days.

This system is a great improvement on the previous one. Then, it took months and sometimes years to obtain the  C of O, with some of the applicants being extorted by fraudulent individuals.

The new electronic system will also put an end to the issue of landgrabbers which has given landowners sleepless nights. Landowners will also now be covered by the Oyo State Property Act 2017 which was recently passed by the House of Assembly and signed to law by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The landowners with relevant land documents are protected and the act provides for landgrabbers to be prosecuted with the full weight of the law.

I have to also commend the state government on the land discount policy which is a very good way of encouraging investors in agriculture, manufacturing, among others, to site their business in the state, thus creating  jobs for youths. The discount ranges from 50 per cent to 90 per cent depending on the intended use.

In my opinion, the Ministry of Lands and the governor of Oyo State are working very hard to make land a huge means of revenue for all citizens of the state. I would advise people of Oyo State to make maximum use of these new policies and systems introduced by the Oyo State government.
