Oyo’s free meal initiative

A group of public primary school children are yet to benefit from the free meal initiative of the Oyo State government. But those in baby class and primary one to primary three have been enjoying the scheme.

School children from primary four to primary six are not among those who are enjoying the free meal.

For me, I think all students should benefit from the gesture. The Ministry of Local Government should constitute a committee to look into how these students are being fed.

The free meal initiative is a good programme. It provides relief for poor parents. Students who have taken the free meal will listen attentively to their teachers in class.

In the same vein, the salaries of their teachers should be paid regularly. We can’t expect the teachers to be teaching primary school pupils on empty stomachs. The state government should also renovate schools.

The government should employ brilliant teachers in public primary schools in the state.

Since government is feeding its pupils, the next thing is to give them sound  education and nothing more.

If the government gives children free meals without sound education, it won’t bring any positive results.
