Oyo: Stakeholders harp on enhanced collaboration to engender economic growth

Economic and Security stakeholders in Oyo have emphasised the need for improved collaboration and corporate social responsibility (CSR) from private firms to engender economic growth and enhance community security.

This was their resolution at the just concluded Oluyole Economic and Security Summit, titled “Expanding Grassroots Economy, Enhancing Community-Based Security at the Local Government Secretariat in Idi-Ayunre.

Engr. Akeem Olatunji, the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, outlined key areas for future projects, including infrastructural development, education, primary healthcare, security, and social amenities.

The event featured notable speakers such as Hon. Abdulmojeed Mognonjubola, Oyo Commissioner for Environment; retired Commissioner of Police Compol Fatai Owoseni; and other influential leaders in security and economic development.

In a comprehensive keynote address, Mr. Olufemi Awakan, Chairman of the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue, analyzed the causes of Nigeria’s economic downturn and proposed strategic measures for local economic improvement.

Panel discussions focused on promoting synergy among stakeholders to achieve the summit’s objectives.

Retired Compol Owoseni praised the current administration’s achievements in security, urging private firms to enhance their CSR efforts to support local development.

He noted that Oluyole has the potential to be the wealthiest local government if corporate entities actively contribute to the community.

Compol Sunday Odukoya, Executive Assistant on Security Matters, echoed these sentiments, linking economic growth to enhanced security measures introduced by Governor Seyi Makinde.

He stressed the importance of cooperation among stakeholders for sustainable local development.

Other speakers, including Dr. Stephen Oyinlola and Okunrinjeje Abiodun Oni, Director General of the Oyo State Mineral Resource Development Agency, commended the summit’s initiative and encouraged continued collaboration between local government and businesses.

Olatunji reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to economic growth through leveraging local resources, and he called on private sector representatives to actively participate in community development.

He emphasized that meaningful progress in Oluyole requires shared responsibility from all sectors.

The summit concluded with a communique highlighting the need for enhanced economic integration and political stability within Oluyole Local Government and the wider Oyo.

Attendees included local government officials, industry representatives, and members of the traditional council, all united in the call for greater private sector engagement in local development efforts.
