Oyo seals six hospitals, one diagnostic centre for illegality

Oyo State government has sealed six hospitals and one diagnostic centre in Akinyele, Oyo East, Oyo West and Afijio local government areas just as it saved a 13-year-old okada accident victim from a quack at Onidundun, a suburb of Oyo State.

The unconscious boy had suffered a head injury that morning. He was dropped at the clinic by his relatives, who the proprietor of the hospital claimed had gone away to look for money.

Dr Adeduntan had led the Oyo State Task Force on Private Health Facilities to K. A kolawole Clinic and Maternity Centre at Onidundun, as part of his Ministry’s efforts to sanitise healthcare delivery in the state. The facility was been run by a nurse.

The Commissioner of health, who expressed displeasure on the boy’s care at the hospital, immediately ordered his referral to the nearest general hospital for care.

Dr Adeduntan restated that the task force was for a corrective purpose, stated that “for the fact that we got to the hospital today, it would have been impossible for us to save the young man.”

He added, “we are going to the follow him up as well as the quack nurse that was the manager of that clinic.  I can assure you that with time, quacks will know that the law will take its course.”

The Commissioner said that all health facilities the task force had closed would remain so until they meet the state government’s requirement to practice.

Offences committed by the closed hospitals according to him, included non-registration of hospital, their employment of quacks and dirty hospital environment.

Adeduntan, who lauded the support of Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to revitalise healthcare provision in the state, announce that soon an endowment fund is to be launched by the to ensure it can renovate all its hospitals and put a stop to medical tourism.

While reiterating that all hospitals and clinics in the state must met government’s requirement to practice, he said the ministry also intend to sanitise how the ministry issues certificate of registration for hospitals and clinics in the state.

According to him, “there are some fake certification going on because of monetary gains and we are going to make sure that does not happen again. I assure you that the law will take its course on all those perpetrating this fraud of licensing just any clinic and maternity home.”
