Oyo Rep facilitates reconstruction of Paara bridge

Arrangements have been concluded to commence reconstruction of the collapsed Paara Bridge in Paara, Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State to ease the plight of the people.

The reconstruction project is being facilitated by a Federal lawmaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi.

This was made known by Hon. Adebowale Amoo JP, Director-General of the Akin Alabi Campaign Organization, while featuring on Jamz 100.1 FM, Ibadan. DG Amoo confirmed that the reconstruction work on the bridge will officially begin on Monday.

Since this announcement, residents of Paara and its neighbourhood in Ona Ara have been celebrating that the long-awaited reconstruction of the collapsed Paara Bridge has finally come.

Hameed Mustapha Ramadan, one of the media aides to Akin Alabi, also confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, noting that the construction of one of the major bridges in Paara, Ona Ara LGA, is set to commence on Monday.

He corroborated Amoo’s statement while on air, stating that the reconstruction of the bridge connecting other communities is being facilitated by the Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi, “Mr. Project.”

Ramadan said; “In addition to the bridge project, three new transformers are also set to arrive and be installed next week, making a total of six transformers delivered in just two months. Two of the transformers will serve Bioku Araba Etile and Ifedapo the trio communities in Ona-Ara LGA, while the third transformer will be installed in Egbeda LGA”

“This act represents a significant commitment of Hon. Akin Alabi to infrastructural development and genuine love for enhancing quality of life and easing vehicular movement
in Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency.

Recall that the Paara Bridge, which collapsed in 2021 due to heavy rainfall, was a vital link connecting Ibadan Airport, Oritamerin Tioya, Old Ife Road, and surrounding communities.

Its collapse has severely impacted the daily lives of over 20,000 residents and disrupted businesses in the area.

According to the statement, since the announcement of the planned reconstruction of the bridge, there has been widespread jubilation in the community, with many praising Hon. Akin Alabi for his intervention.

Residents have expressed their gratitude both on social media and in person, acknowledging the start of construction as a major step toward restoring the region’s infrastructure and improving the lives of residents.

“As work is set to begin, there is renewed hope that these projects will pave the way for further improvements within Ona Ara Local Government, contributing to the overall development of the community”.
