Oyo prays for Nigeria’s economic prosperity

PRAYERS and supplications for God to restore the country to economic prosperity were held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday, with state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi stating that there were telltale signs that the fortunes of the country would become better within the next six months.

The event held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, saw Muslim and Christian clerics raise their voices to God in prayers for an end to economic recession, killings in Southern Kaduna, kidnapping for ransom, insurgency of the North East, and especially, an economic turnaround for the better.

In his homily, Apostle Sunday Popoola of Word Communication Minstries (WOCOM) urged Nigerians to speak well of the nation and her leaders.

He noted that God was not oblivious of the challenges currently experience in the country, harping on the fact that spoken wishes of Nigerians germinated and reached the heavens.

“If this programme is sincerely organised, this state will experience a turnaround in her economy before the end of the year,” Popoola prophesied.

Executive Secretary of the Muslim Ummah of South West, Nigeria, Professor Daud Noibi, emphasised the need for leaders of government to be upright in leading their subjects.

Popular Islamic preacher, Sheik Muideen Bello wondered why some Nigerians continued to speak ill of President Muhammadu Buhari and the country.

He described as unfortunate a situation where Buhari was not surrounded by people who do not mean well for the country.

“Sometimes, it is unfortunate that Buhari is not surrounded by people who mean well for the country. We must speak well of the country and pray for the country. The challenges being faced by the country is even enough to make the President ill,” Bello said.

In his remarks, Governor Ajimobi noted that with the country producing two million barrels per day and the price of crude oil increasing, the economy was bound to improve within the next three to six months.

He also expressed optimism that the high price of the dollar would also come down soon.

“Nigeria is getting better, we are producing 2million barrels per day and the price of crude oil is increasing. Within the next three to six months, things will get better. Also, the dollar price will come down,” Ajimobi said.

Ajimobi said the state government organised the prayer session to thank God for the country thus far and pray for unity, peace and progress.

He added that the event was organised to seek God’s guidance for the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, governors.

Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Mr M. A. SIyanbade, said the session was an opportunity for Nigerians, both Muslim and Christian, to collectively pray for economic prosperity and for leaders to be imbued with the needed wisdom to lead alright.

Chairman, Oyo Pilgrims Welfare Board, Very Reverend Ademola Moradeyo; Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Oyo state, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun; Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu; Very Reverend Father Richard Omolade of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan were among clerics who led prayers at event.

Also present at the event were wife of state governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi; state deputy governor, Mr Moses Adeyemo; Secretary to SWtate Government, Mr Olalekan Alli; Speaker, Oyo House of Assembly, Honourable Micheal Adeyemo; Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III; the Olubadan in council; members of the state executive council and the state House of Assembly.
