Oyo police nab vehicle battery thieves

THE Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected robber who specialised in stealing car batteries from where the vehicles were parked and selling them at ridiculous prices.

The suspect, Afeez Adigun, 20, operated around Fodacis area, Ring Road, Ibadan.

Apart from car batteries, Adigun also stole vehicles’ brain boxes and other valuable parts in a vehicle, while selling them to his accomplices.

Speaking with Metro during his parade at the Oyo State Police Command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Adigun said whenever he stole batteries or other vehicle parts, he sold them to his accomplices, who gave him money immediately.

Despite knowing how costly car batteries are in the market, Adigun confessed that he sold each stolen battery for N2, 000.

“I specialised in opening the bonnets of vehicles parked by the road side, while I steal the batteries and other valuable vehicle parts. However, I mostly steal batteries because I could sell them fast, since each went for N2, 000.

“I was, however, caught by the police while in the process of stealing from a car parked by the roadside at Ring Road,” Adigun said.
