Police arrested a middle-aged woman and three accomplices for the alleged possession of ₦12 million in cash, firearms, and Indian hemp in Iwere-Ile, Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Wednesday.
The suspects were apprehended by a combined team of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and police officers after residents alerted security operatives about their suspicious activities in the area.
According to a source who wished to remain anonymous, the arrests followed a period of surveillance. Residents alleged that the suspects were pretending to be charcoal dealers, suggesting that they could be linked to kidnappings and other related crimes in the community if properly investigated.
“They are posing as charcoal dealers, but investigations could reveal their involvement in local criminal activities,” the source stated. “The suspected criminals were found in possession of ₦12 million, firearms, and marijuana during the joint operation.”
