The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Oyo State has reiterated its commitment towards ensuring total compliance with the guidelines designed to curtail the spread of COVID-19 and protect the public health of corps members during their three weeks orientation programmes.
The Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe made this known on Tuesday in a statement signed and issued by the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs Olatoye Christy, saying “the welfare of corps members is given top priority and the scheme will never engage in whatever action that can jeopardise the health of corps members.”
Ogbuogebe made this remark in light of a report making the rounds that camp officials have not been in total compliance with COVID-19 guidelines and protocols at the orientation camp.
However, the state coordinator revealed that all activities in the camp were in compliance with COVID rules and several facilities have been put in place to ensure strict adherence to the safety protocols during the orientation course.
She said, “It is on record that at the point of entry it is ensured that all corps members comply with wearing of facemask and washing of hands at the wash hand bays that have been strategically positioned. Thereafter the COVID-19 test is carried out by the resident NCDC surveillance team in collaboration with the corps medical personnel and the result is immediately released.
“Individuals who test positive are held at the holding bay from where the ambulance with a medical personnel conveys them to the State Isolation centre, Olodo Ibadan.”
Ogbuogebe, further noted that “To effectively ensure strict compliance within the camp, the management has constituted a 30-man COVID-19 Vanguard which includes corps members saddled with the responsibility of enforcing the implementation of the COVID-19 safety protocols.
“The corps members were equitably distributed in all the hostels which are well partitioned in compliance with NCDC guidelines and conditions for the re-opening of orientation camps nationwide.
“Also, posters are placed around the camp to remind everyone to take responsibility and covid sensitization lectures are daily delivered by corps medical personnel during morning meditation.”
Recall, that the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, had earlier promised strict compliance with the COVID-19 protocols endorsed by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on the pandemic and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in all its orientation camps in the country.
He said, “In line with the current realities, our approach to the conduct of the orientation course will focus on proper induction of corps members on core ideals of the scheme, with equal attention to the approved safety protocols.”
