Oyo NYSC holds national environmental sanitation day

Published by
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has marked the National Environmental Sanitation day as directed by the Director-General of the scheme, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim.

Recall, Ibrahim has earlier directed nationwide environmental sanitation to be carried out through the Community Development Service which enables the corps members under the auspices of the scheme to positively impact the host communities.

Speaking at the National Environmental Sanitation Day, the State Coordinator NYSC Oyo State, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe represented by the Assistant Director of Community Development Service, Mr Olumide Adekeye said the exercise for the first quarter of 2022 was being carried out in all the 33 local governments of Oyo State.

He noted that the exercise is aimed at achieving a clean and habitable environment as well as helping to prevent the outbreak or spread of diseases.

Adekeye, equally stated that the nationwide sanitation exercise is an opportunity for corps members to sensitize the populace on the importance of cleaning their surroundings and avert the dangers inherent in a dirty environment and improper waste disposal.

The Iyalaje of the popular Dugbe Market represented by Mrs Maria Muibat Ogunsanlu commended the exercise carried out at the Dugbe Market as a laudable initative by the NYSC scheme.

She noted that the exercise will inculcate community responsibility in the minds of the young graduates thereby motivating them towards achieving the Nigerian dream through the younger generation.

She further said the presence of the corps members would motivate the traders towards maintaining good hygiene while assuring that the efforts of the scheme to maintain a clean environment will not be compromised rather with other leaders, the market community will embark on routine sanitation which is of benefit to all.

The sanitation exercise includes sweeping, emptying the waste bins and cleaning gutters in different markets of the State.

The corps members also sensitised the members of the communities on the need for proper refuse disposal and the importance of routine cleaning of their environment.
