Oyo NURTW appeals to Makinde to lift ban on union

GOVERNOR Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has been called upon to lift the ban on the state branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Chairman of the union, Alhaji Abideen Olajide (aka Ejiogbe), made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to Tribune Online.

The union was proscribed late May by the state government reported clashes by its factional members in some parts of Ibadan, the state capital.

Ejiogbe, in the statement, said the prescription order has adversely affected the fortunes of the NURTW members in the state due to what he said was the blockage of their legitimate means of livelihood.

He also enjoined the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji (Ajeogungunniso I) to help to appeal to Governor Makinde to lift the ban on NURTW.

He assured the governor of the unalloyed support of the members of the union for the efforts of the present administration to improve the living condition of the people of the state.

The Oyo NURTW chairman said his members have continued to remain calm despite the prescription, even as assured that the union would continue to maintain peace and tranquillity in the state.

He commended the NURTW national president, Alhaji Najeem Yaasin, for his efforts to restore normalcy to the state chapter of the union.

As part of the peace process, he said, “Alhaji Yaasin invited me and forms Oyo NURTW stalwart, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi (aka Auxiliary). I attended but Auxiliary did not turn up.”
