Oyo MMPN urges govt to solve economic, security problems

THE Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Oyo State chapter, has appealed to the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, put effective economic policies in place to control spiraling inflation, reduce the cost of daily needs and make life easy for average Nigerians.

The Oyo State MMPN stressed that the need to revamp the nation’s economy at this critical period could not be overemphasised.

These were contained in a communique signed by the association’s chairman, Alhaji Adebayo Abdur-Rofih and the secretary of the communique drafting committee, Sherifdeen Nasirdeen, after a recent meeting of the association held on at the Ibadan station of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

The association called on President Bola Tinubu to be firm and assertive in his political and governance decisions/policies in order to whittle down undue influences from within and outside his government.

The MMPN said: “We urge government to step up its efforts in handling security matters and to restructure the nation’s security architecture to ensure adequate security of lives and property of the citizenry.

“Nigerians in general also need to be conscious and vigilant of happenings in their environment and to be quick on intelligence sharing with security agencies in order to nip crimes and criminality in the bud.”

The association urged the Federal Government to take more decisive actions in the fight against corruption.

“There should be no sacred cow, and no case of corruption should be swept under the carpet. We believe sincere fight against corruption will be good for Nigeria and Nigerians as the malaise is an ill wind that blows no one any good,” it said.

The Oyo State MMPN commended what it called the bold and unequivocal stance of the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abdul Ganiy Abubakri Agbotomokekere and the Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) to condemn the dastardly act of some people who were believed to be Muslim clerics but who were recently exposed as ritualists.

The association implored the leadership of other faiths to emulate the move with a view to discouraging ungodly practices within religious folds.
