Oyo LG distributes solar system to security formations

The Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, has distributed solar power systems to all security formations within the local government area.

Olatunji explained that the initiative was driven by his administration’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted power supply across all security agencies, thereby enhancing their operational efficiency.

The solar power systems were distributed to various security agencies, including the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the DSS, Amotekun Corp, and others on Friday, January 31, shortly after a Security Council meeting held at the LG Secretariat in Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan.

Speaking to newsmen after the handover, Olatunji emphasized that the deployment of solar systems was part of his strategic efforts to improve public safety and support security personnel in maintaining law and order.

By providing a reliable and sustainable energy source, he said, the local government aims to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of its security apparatus.

Olatunji also assured that all 43 Primary Healthcare Centres in Oluyole would receive solar systems for installation by next week to boost their operational capacity.

In September 2024, Olatunji facilitated the restoration of electricity to over 15 communities, including the Council Secretariat, after a decade-long blackout. This move revitalized business activities and improved the quality of life for residents in the affected areas.

The Council Chairman further emphasized that reliable electricity is crucial for effective community policing. He noted that the solar systems would eliminate power outages that often hinder law enforcement activities, especially during the night.

“Security is a top priority for my administration, in line with the vision of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde. We must provide our officers with the necessary resources to ensure they operate effectively. The distribution of solar power systems is one of the many steps we are taking to enhance security in Oluyole,” Olatunji stated.

The heads of the security agencies present at the meeting expressed their gratitude, calling the solar system distribution a timely intervention that would improve and enhance community policing efficiency in the area.
