Akinwunmi Ishola
THE Oyo State Government on Monday through the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism paid a condolence visit to the family of Professor Akinwunmi Isola who died at the weekend.
The State Government described Professor Isola’s death as a monumental loss to the cultured family in Oyo State and Nigeria, saying that he stood tall in the culture and theatre landscape as his scholarly output and theatrical contributions in the world of art and culture would be sorely missed.
Leading the Ministry officials to late Isola’s house at Akobo, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun described Professor Isola as an epitome of Yoruba Culture who had left an indelible mark that would forever be remembered.
Arulogun urged the family not to be bereaved but rather thank God for the contribution of the deceased to the development of the country, the upliftment of the Yoruba culture as well as the prestige and honour he has given Oyo State, saying that Professor Isola’s name will remain as a household name in both civil and academic societies.
The Commissioner said that the state government will support the burial arrangement of the renowned playwright and literary giant, stating that the honour given to him while he was alive will be replicated with a befitting burial to celebrate a worthy ambassador of the state.
