The Oyo State government has called for increased collaboration with the private sector and community leaders in enhancing healthcare infrastructure, medical equipment, and facilities across the state.
This plea was made by Dr. Akin Fagbemi, Chairman of the Oyo State Health Management Board, who represented Governor Seyi Makinde at the remodel and renovation ceremony of the General Hospital, Igboora, in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area.
The renovation project, completed by the Adedigba family in memory of their late parent, Alhaji Jimoh Atilola Adedigba, aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s Omituntun 2.0 vision.
Dr. Fagbemi praised the Adedigba family’s gesture, stating, “The government cannot do it all alone. We need the collaboration of the private sector and private individuals in the healthcare service delivery system.
“There is a need for the people in the private sector and well-meaning individuals in society to share in the vision of the present administration, especially in the health sector, noting that health is wealth.”
He further emphasised that the renovation of critical sections of the General Hospital would significantly improve primary healthcare services in the area, setting a high standard for private sector involvement in the state.
Mrs Adepeju Hussein Giwa, representing the Adedigba family, elaborated on the motivation behind the project, citing Islamic principles.
“Today’s event is the handover of General Hospital, Igboora, that was renovated in our father’s name to the state government,” she said.
“We are Muslim. In Islam, there is something called Zadakat Jariah. When somebody dies, their good deeds die with them except the children and some other things that they leave behind.
“However, when projects that benefit mankind like this are put in place in their remembrance, our belief as Muslims is that the rewards go to the deceased. Things like this will elevate their status in Aljannah.”
She also noted that a similar project was completed in Ibadan in 2023, but this is the first such initiative in their native town of Igboora.
