Oyo govt, regularise activities of event centres, shopping malls

Published by

May I call the attention of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State to the traffic chaos which operators of event centres and shopping malls regularly cause road users within the state. As a resident of Ibadan, I have witnessed countless avoidable traffic gridlock at the frontage of these facilities. There is nothing stopping the government insisting on enough vehicular space as a requisite for approving papers for the owners of the centres.

Though I am constrained to mention names, I am sure government officials are also aware of the inconvenience caused by these operators. The attention which Oyo State Government has so far given environmental issues would not be meaningful if this one is not addressed too.

Some people say that some government officials are also owners of the facilities, a reason that makes it difficult for government to take necessary step to check the operators. But I don’t want to believe that unsubstantiated claim. I believe in the willpower with which Governor Ajimobi has carried out some policies which we did not know would be possible in the state, in Ibadan, in particular.

Therefore, I believe that before the governor leaves office next year, he will do something about it.
