Of Oyo govt and herdsmen’s crisis

Published by

For some time now, there have been numerous complaints from the citizens of Oyo State concerning the activities of herdsmen around the state.

These herdsmen move around with guns and other weapons. This actually suggests terrorism in a way, and it is a growing danger.

Given this situation, the Oyo State government must intervene in the matters. Happily, according to media reports, the state government has made a resolve to prosecute herdsmen who wield guns. In my view, this move is a right step in the right direction.

I believe that all citizens of the state should whole-heartedly support the state government in its bid to rid the state of terror.

The constitution of Nigeria in fact does not allow any citizen to carry weapons like guns without a licence, except the constitutionally recognised personnel of the armed forces and the paramilitary agencies. This justifies and gives credence to the action of the Oyo State government.

Therefore, I see this action of the government of Oyo State as being protective of the lives and property of the citizens of the state.  The government should be lauded for this proactive action.
