Oyo govt ejects illegal occupants of Egbeda Estate

The Oyo State government, on Thursday, ejected some illegal occupants of the state-owned Ajoda Estate, situated in Egbeda Local Government area of the state.

Those ejected were found guilty of offences ranging from illegally staying in the government-owned property for between five and eight years to subletting some the vacant apartments to unsuspecting members of the public.

Acting Director, Oyo State Housing Corporation on Thursday, Mr Samuel Adekunle, who led the taskforce, said the action was sequel to several complaints by the original allotees of the flats alleging takeover of their properties by other persons.

Prior to the action, Adekunle explained that the illegal occupants had failed to yield the corporation’s vacation orders.

He, subsequently, assured of continuation of the exercise, warning that those who fail to vacate as directed could face prosecution.

“We have given most of the houses in the estate to our allottees but most of them are not resident in Ibadan. We have visited the estate severally but could not eject them, believing the original owners allowed them stay there.

“It was recently that the owners came to complain that some people illegally occupied their flats illegally,” Adekunle said.
