Oyo FRSC inducts new special marshals

THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State command, has inducted new special marshals with a mandate urging them to work hard towards reducing road accidents in the state.

Speaking during the induction ceremony at the Trenchard Hall of the University of Ibadan, the Oyo FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Yusuf Salami, described special marshals as the second tier of the corps, admitting that their assignment was as important as that of the regular staff.

“The only difference between the regular officials and special marshals is that while regular officials collect salaries for the work done, special marshals volunteer their time.

“However, it is a good thing that you have chosen to serve your fatherland through ensuring that road accidents reduce drastically in the state,” Mr Salami said, while charging the inductees not to lose the zeal that made them apply to become part of the FRSC midway.

Earlier, the state Coordinator of Special Marshals, Alhaji Saka Adepoju, thanked the inductees for volunteering their time to serve their fatherland, saying the assignment at hand was very enormous.

“You must be careful while performing your duties and you must not be on duty alone, except you happen to be in a place where your assistance is necessary,” Alhaji Adepoju said.

However, in his word of advice to the inductees, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Sam Adegbuyi, charged the new special marshals not to abuse the opportunity that had been handed over to them, but to use it to serve the people.

Mr Adegbuyi, represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Chinedu Oko, also said the police would continue to work with the FRSC and special marshals towards reducing carnages on the roads, as there is this synergy among all security agencies in the country.

Over 150 special marshals were inducted, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka, who promised that the new marshals would abide by the rules and regulations of the FRSC.
