The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Johnson Adenola, has described the late Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in the command, Akin Adejobi, as a hard-working, gallant, and dedicated officer who committed all his energy to serving his motherland.
CP Adenola gave the eulogy on Thursday at the service of songs held in honour of the late DC Ops at the Conference Hall, Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.
Aside from the family members and children of the deceased, the occasion was graced by heads of security agencies and dignitaries, including the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Joe Fadile; the representative of the Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, DCC Olugbesan; the Head of Service in Oyo, Mrs Olubunmi Oni; and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, represented by Mogajis.
Others included Governor Seyi Makinde’s Executive Assistant on Security Matters, CP Sunday Odukoya (rtd); the Board Chairman of Amotekun Corps, AIG Sikiru Akande (rtd); CP Ayo Sonubi (rtd); CP Rotimi Adelesi (rtd); and the National President of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan.
The Commissioner of Police, who quoted Ecclesiastes 3, verses 2 to 4, said the service was to celebrate the achievements of the deceased and the impact he had on those around him.
“As we gather here today to bid our beloved DCP Akin Adejobi farewell, I want us to use a moment to reflect on the legacy he has left behind.
“Akin Adejobi gave his all, and we are really going to miss him. With courage and passion for service, he kept communicating and working even with his health challenges.
“I had planned a robust working relationship with him when posted to Oyo. As a DCP, he had many years ahead that could have benefited the nation but, unfortunately, we lost him,” CP Adenola said.
He stated that DCP Adejobi’s death was a significant loss to the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Oyo State Police Command.
The police boss added, “Akin Adejobi gave his all. We are really going to miss him.
“Oyo State will miss him, Oyo State Police Command will miss him, Nigeria Police Force will miss him, and Nigeria as a nation will miss him. He will forever be etched in our minds.
“May his memory inspire us to continue to strive for excellence, integrity, and service to humanity.”
In his tribute, the NDLEA Commander of Narcotics said that since he assumed duty in Oyo in 2024, he could not count the number of times he had called the late DCP, to which he always responded promptly and positively, even when he was outside the country.
Saying that they both had mutual respect for each other, he had just prepared to call him concerning an issue when he got the shocking news of his death.
He described the late Adejobi as “a wonderful goal-getter and problem-solving man,” adding, “It is hard for us to say goodbye to him, but it is a fact of life that we will all go through.”
In his remarks, CP Odukoya (rtd) said the deceased, whom he described as a seasoned, dedicated officer, was also committed and a teacher with the fear of God.
In his exhortation, the Command’s Chaplain, CSP Moses Adekola, referenced Psalms 103, verses 15 to 16, to speak on the topic “Will You Be Remembered?”
He noted that people usually do not value what they have until they have lost it, rhetorically asking the gathering what they would be remembered for if their answers were in the affirmative.
He urged everyone to do what is expected of them, with the thought that there might not be a tomorrow to do so.
Tribune Online learnt that DCP Adejobi died on 5 April following an illness.
He will be buried on Saturday in his hometown, Orile Owu, Osun State.
