The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Johnson Adenola, has charged newly promoted officers to see their new ranks as a challenge to do more for the system which has recognised, appreciated and placed so much trust in them.
The Commissioner of Police gave the charge on Tuesday while decorating a promoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and three Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) with their new ranks at the command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.
One of the new ACPs is the Commander, Monitoring Unit of Oyo Command, Olusola Aremu. The two other ACPs are Ibrahim Ishaq and Idris M. Idris.
Thanking God on behalf of the officers who he said had the privilege of being elevated to their new ranks, CP Adenola said that they had worked very hard to remain focused on their jobs to get to where they are today.
He noted that promotion signifies a lot of things – recognition by the Nigeria Police Force, appreciation, and motivation – which are aimed at spurring the officers to greater heights.
He spoke highly of the promoted officers, saying that they had really impressed him within the short period he had worked with them, as they had proven that they understand the local terrain and have the local knowledge and capability to help Oyo Police Command.
“You are crossing a major cadre from Superintendent to Assistant Commissioner.
“It is a strategic force management level; a high cadre which demands a lot from everyone there.
“The reward for hard work is more work. You are yet to arrive, as there are still many ladders to climb and rivers to cross.
“See your new ranks as a challenge to do more for the system which has recognized, appreciated, and placed so much trust in you.
“Your promotion demands more dedication, loyalty and commitment to the goals of the Force.
“As you wear your new ranks, remain committed; the sky is your limit,” the police boss advised the promoted officers.
He said that the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, would continue to recognise officers who have displayed exceptional performances and continue to encourage them so that they could do better.
He, however, warned that the Force would not tolerate bad conduct and would continue to punish and deal with those trying to tarnish its image.
He assured that there would always be reward for good efforts, admonishing other officers to learn from the decorated officers and others already promoted before them to serve as encouragement.
He said that promotions must be justified, adding that no good efforts go unrewarded.
He enjoined the family members of the promoted officers not to relent in giving necessary support to the officers’ endeavours.
Speaking on behalf of the decorated officers, DCP Dangana thanked God for making the day possible and the IGP for finding them worthy of the new ranks.
He also expressed appreciation to CP Adenola for the decoration, asserting that promotion is a privilege, not a right.
He assured the Oyo CP that they would not let him down, but key into his agenda to make sure he achieves his mission in the Command
