The conviction of four cyber fraudsters was secured by the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, with their being sentenced before Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The accused persons – Faisol Iretiayo Kareem, Olusola Johnson Alawode, Isaac Adeniyi Alli and Salau Kehinde Adekunle – were convicted after pleading guilty to separate counts which bordered on fraudulent impersonation, contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (i) and punishable under Section 22(3) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc.) Act.
Adekunle was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment; Alli to eight months; Kareem, six months while Alawode got five months jail term, all pronounced by Justice Agomoh.
Also, the court ordered that Alli forfeit one 2010 model Mercedes Benz ML 350, a gold chain, an iPhone 12 Pro Max, a Nokia 3.4 mobile phone, 0.15757655 worth of Bitcoin and the sum of N33,497.59 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Adekunle was ordered to restitute $3,000 and forfeit an iPhone 11 Pro and the sum of N33,083.19 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Also, Kareem was ordered to restitute $2,300 and forfeit an iTel phone to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The fourth convict, Alawode, was ordered to pay N150,000 in restitution and forfeit a Lexus E350 car, an HP Laptop, an iPhone X and Techno Spark mobile phones to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
