Oyo community gets new king after 34 years

After 34-years of royal interregnum, Ado-Awaye community in Oke Ogun Area of Oyo State, will get a new traditional ruler, with Prince Ademola Folakanmi of the Maku Ruling House set to be installed as the new Alado of Ado-Awaye today, Sunday Tribune has learnt.

Prince Folakanmi, it was gathered, would be the eighth Alado since the community descended from the Ado-Awaye hills in 1876.

The stool, as reported by Sunday Tribune on March 17, 2013, had been vacant for more than three decades, following a court action by the Oladunni Ruling House over a 1984 Oyo State government declaration that four ruling houses, rather than one, were entitled to the Alado throne.

It was learnt that the case, which prevented the installation of a new Alado for 34 years, was dispensed with weeks ago, with the state government granting approval to the Maku Ruling house to present the next Alado.

Sunday Tribune further learnt that following the government declaration, four ruling houses, including Maku, Olaogun, Olusosun and Oladunni, will now present candidates for the throne.

Ado-Awaye is the site of the popular suspended lake.
