Oyo State House of Assembly has called on the state government to give more attention to the Cultural Centre, Mokola, Ibadan, as well as upgrade the cinema for three-dimensional (3D) film viewing.

This, the Assembly, noted will return the glory days of the Cultural Centre, make it a tourist delight, and help increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State.

The Assembly’s plea was contained in a motion by member representing Ibadan North II State Constituency, Honourable Babajide Adebayo, at plenary on Tuesday.

Adebayo, in the motion, argued that the Cultural Centre had potential to be a top recreation, relaxation point for the populace if accorded more attention by the government.

He said: “In the past, the Centre served as a medium to showcase the cultural heritage of the pace setter state, leading among its equals before it became moribund.

“When some of us were growing up, the Centre served as a tourist and adventure spot for citizens and foreigners. The Centre was a beehive of activities and a lot was generated in terms of revenue.

“Government needs to look deeper and work towards generating more Internally Generated Revenue from the Culture and Tourism sector.”
The day’s plenary also saw the passage into law of the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency Bill, 2023.
