THE current make up of the 32-member Oyo House of Assembly is All Progressives Congress (APC) with 18 members, African Democratic Congress (ADC) having 12 members and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) boasting of two members.

This new makeup followed another round of defection announced at Tuesday’s plenary.

Tuesday’s defection saw five members of the APC, three members of the Accord party and one member of the Labour party, dump the platforms upon which they were elected for the ADC.

Those APC members whose letters of defection were read by Clerk of the Assembly, Mr Paul Bankole, at plenary were deputy Speaker, Honourables Abdulwasi Musah, Bolaji Badmos, Olusegun Olaleye, Ganiyu Oseni, Afeez Adeleke.

Those of Accord who defected are Samson Oguntade, Muideen Olagunju and Buliamin Azeez while Lukman Balogun defected from Labour party.

It would be recalled that last week, Honourables Ademola Ige and Fatai Adesina had defected from Accord to ADC; Gbenga Oyekola from Labour to ADC, while Honourables  Olagunju Ojo, Olukayode Solomon and  Olawumi Oladeji left Labour Party for APC and Peter Oyetunji joined the PDP from Labour.

Also during Tuesday plenary, the house appealed to the Oyo state government to urgently come to the rescue of the state-owned institutions with bailout funds and upgrade of subventions released to the institutions.

The appeal followed discussions on a motion brought to the plenary by Mr Olaleye, representing Ibadan North 2 state constituency entitled, “Financial bailout and improved subvention to Oyo state territory institutions.”

Olaleye said the speedy approval of bailout fund to state tertiary institutions in the state will prevent them from total collapse.

In their separate contributions, the speaker, Honourable Olagunju Ojo and some members emphasized the need for government to take proactive steps by improving subvention given to the tertiary institutions.

In a motion co-sponsored by the Chairman parliamentary council, Honourables Olusegun Ajanaku and Fatai Adesina, the Assembly has enjoined the federal government to hand over the management of Obafemi Awolowo stadium to the state government for proper restoration and maximum utilization of sporting activities.
