Oyo Assembly lawmaker, others induct CIFIAN professional members in Abuja

A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency, Honourable Afeez Adegbenga Adeleke, alongside over a 100 distinguished Nigerians have been inducted into Chartered Institute of Forensic and Investigative Auditors of Nigeria (CIFIAN) as professional members in Abuja.

Addressing them during the induction at the weekend, the CIFIAN Pro-tem President, Dr (Mrs) Enape Victoria Ayishetu urged them to be good ambassadors of the institute in their respective organisations and ensure that they jointly prevent fraud, corruption and cyber crimes in Nigeria with a view to stopping further loss of billions of Naira that have been recorded in the past five years.

According to her, the recorded fraud volume in Nigeria financial institution due to cybercrime increased drastically to about N25 billion in the past five years, and CIFIAN is worried about this evil development which is inimical to the development of any country, if nothing is done about it now, because the future generation will have nothing to fall back to.

She, therefore, called on the House of Representatives to disregard the antics of the enemy of Nigeria who has disguised self under the protection of Accounting profession which is not but just to continue preventing a country that belongs to all from experiencing deliverance from fraud, corruption and cybercrimes which have dwarfed the nation’s development over the years.

While urging the House of Representatives to give possible concurrence to the bill without further delay based on its merit and posterity would remember them, Dr Ayishetu further said the bill had been passed by the Nigerian Senate since July 5, 2018.

“The bill to establish the institute was passed by the Nigerian Senate on July 5, 2019, after passing through all necessary legislative processes at the Senate and transmitted immediately to the House of Representatives in the month of August 2018 for a possible concurrence, but we are surprised and worried about the delay in the House of Representatives due to the activities of the enemy of the bill which is orchestrated by greediness and parochial interest of group of persons that has no good intention for the country,” She stressed.

Also speaking, one of the inductees and member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Adeleke, who appreciated the Senate for deeming it fit to pass the bill, therefore, urged House of Representatives to follow suit, as the bill would help Nigeria to prevent fraud, as well as corruption and cyber crimes which have eaten deep into the fabric of the nation’s economy.

A fellow of the institute, Professor Oladipupo Adesina, also charged the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly to expedite action by giving an accelerated hearing to the CIFIAN bill to help the institute prevent the cybercrime and other related vices.
