Oyo APC lauds power minister on restoration of electricity in UCH

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has described the intervention of the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, in facilitating the immediate restoration of electricity supply to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, as a testament to the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to its Renewed Hope agenda, aimed at improving the lives of citizens.

Following reports of the disconnection of power supply to UCH by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) due to the hospital’s alleged indebtedness, Chief Adelabu led a delegation from Abuja to a meeting with the relevant parties in Ibadan on Monday. This intervention yielded immediate positive results.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State APC’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said:

“It is a thing of joy that the minister visited Ibadan yesterday (Monday) with a magic wand, and all issues between the managements of UCH and IBEDC were amicably resolved. Reports confirm that power supply has now been restored.

“We hereby express our profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for granting the minister permission to intervene and resolve the situation, not only for the benefit of the citizens but also to uphold the country’s image, considering that UCH is a globally recognized teaching hospital.

“Interestingly, the minister’s visit to Ibadan was not solely about brokering peace between the managements of UCH and the electricity distribution company. While addressing the press after the meeting, Chief Adelabu disclosed that UCH would be added to the list of teaching hospitals and higher institutions that had faced similar challenges but overcame them through the Federal Government’s solar mini-grid intervention.

“He assured that a 50-megawatt solar mini-grid would be installed by the Federal Government to serve the University of Ibadan, the University College Hospital, and the College of Medicine, with the project expected to be completed within the first and second quarters of the year.

“With this development, the longstanding erratic power supply crisis affecting these three institutions will become a thing of the past, renewing hope for a better future.

“We acknowledge the various efforts of the Ministry of Power under Chief Adelabu to ensure a steady electricity supply across the country. We urge citizens to exercise patience and cooperate to facilitate the quick realization of this goal under the Tinubu administration.”
