Oyo APC crisis: Let go of selfish interest, Lam-Adesina urges party gladiators

Published by

Honourable Dapo Lam-Adesina, son of late former governor Lamidi Adesina has urged gladiators of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to let go of their selfish interest for peace to reign in the state chapter of the party.

Dapo Lam-Adesina gave this charge at the 9th Annual Remembrance of his late dad, held on Thursday at Lam Adesina House, Felele, Ibadan.

Bemoaning in-fighting in the Oyo APC over occupying party positions, he questioned whether such was in the interest of the people and not for personal interests.

He sued for peace among gladiators in the party, urging them to retrospect on whether they truly are living up to the ideas of progressivism as lived by progressive leaders like the late Lam Adesina.

“The various gladiators should allow peace to reign and let us reduce our selfish interest if truly we have said we are coming to liberate the people of Oyo State.

“For anybody who is putting himself or herself forward to lead the people, it must be less selfish interest, love for the people. If we are fighting among ourselves just because we want to take charge of a party, are we saying we are doing that for the interest of the people?

“We know what the great progressive leaders stood for and we ask that are the things they stood for, still the things we stand for today? Those are the posers to the gladiators.

“Anything you want to say about the great Lam, you know he was 100 per cent progressive so when you are talking about a progressive party, you are talking about a progressive government, are you saying this is what we have been able to deliver to the people in the last few years.

“When you talk about a progressive government, you talk about education; you talk about agriculture; you talk about rural development; you talk about health; you talk about life abundance for the masses.

“These days we only deliver white elephant projects that will not benefit the common man. Development is fantastic but it must not be done at the detriment of the people.

“We are impoverishing the less privileged and that is why people keep looking for politicians to give them token during elections.

“We need to make the economy better for the people so that our people can also be self-sufficient,” Lam-Adesina said.

Among those who joined the wife of the late former governor, Alhaja Sarat Adesina for the remembrance and fidau prayer were former governors Rashidi Ladoja and Adebayo Alao-Akala; former deputy governor Iyiola Oladokun; Senator Teslim Folarin representing Oyo Central; Oyo APC governorship candidate in the 2019 election, Chief Adebayo Adelabu; former Senator, Monsurat Sunmonu; legal practitioner, Niyi Akintola, SAN; a former works and transport commissioner, Yunus Akintunde.

Others present were former Oyo Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi; former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Alhaji Akin Olajide; Chief Taofeek Adegboyega; a former Commissioner for Environment in the state, Lowo Obisesan; outgoing Secretary, Oyo APC, Mr Mojeed Olaoya; APC leader in Ibarapa land, Alhaji Laide Abas; Chief Ismail Akinade-Fijabi; Honourable Musiliu Akinremi; Oyo APC Chairman-elect, Mr Isaac Omodewu; former Senator, Adesoji Akanbi; former Majority leader in the state Assembly, Honourable Kehinde Subair;

Also present was Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheikh Abdulganiyy Agbotomokekere led other Islamic clerics in the fidau for the continued repose of the late former governor Lamidi Adesina.

Chief Imam of Oluyole, Alhaji Mudathir Bada, in his sermon, decried that politicians had the tendency to be lax in the service of God.

He urged politicians to be wary of the fact that God who sustains life can also take that life at any time.

Speaking further, Lam-Adesina described the last nine years without his dad alive as very turbulent.

He, however, said he was learning fast the teachings of his father to be tough.

“Nine years without my dad has been very turbulent. But tough times don’t last, tough people do. I remember while I was growing he had that quote on the door of his bathroom that tough times don’t last, tough people do. I believe I am becoming extremely tough,” Lam-Adesina said.
