Oyo Amotekun grills event centre’s guards for wearing personnel’s uniform colour

Published by

The Oyo State Command of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), codenamed Amotekun Corps, has invited security men engaged by Ruby Event Centre, Alafara. Ibadan, for questioning after it was discovered that they were wearing uniform colour resembling that of Amotekun personnel.

The invitation was confirmed by Amotekun’s second-in-command, Kazeem Babalola Akinro.

Explaining the reason behind the invitation, Akinro told Tribune Online that the Amotekun security operatives went on duty to the area where the event Centre is situated when they saw men wearing uniforms of the same colour as that of Amotekun.

This, he said, could lead to impersonation.

According to Akinro, on an enquiry about how they got the uniform, the security men had told the Amotekun personnel that it was sewn for them by the owner of the Centre.

When asked if they were aware that the colour tallies with that of Amotekun, they could not respond.

“If someone commits crime, wearing the colour uniform and his picture is taken as he runs away, how many people will know that the person is not an Amotekun personnel,” the second-in-command asked rhetorically.

“That was why we invited them, and their manager came with them, telling us that it was the colour that was used to decorate the hall and other things, as well as the curtains and chair covers at the Event Centre.”

The manager of the event centre, Mr Akeem Adekoya, who spoke with the Tribune Online, said that after its establishment about 10 years ago, the idea of using a uniform came up when the employed security men were coming to work in sleeveless, Ankara and other clothes.

He said that the chairman decided to sew the uniform for the men for easy job identification and uniformity.

Mr Adekoya pointed out that the colour of the uniform was chosen in line with Ruby, which is the name of the Events Centre.

He said that all the decorations of event centres were in ruby and white colour.

“We have no hidden motive behind sewing the uniform for our security men, and we imprinted ‘Ruby’ on chest part of the uniform to show where it is being used,” the manager stated further.
