Oyetola holds security meeting with Police, Army on moves to tackle criminalities in Osun

WORRIED by the spate of kidnappings in Osun, the state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola on Friday held security meeting with the top hierarchy of the Police, army and other paramilitary agencies in the state to combat abductions and other criminalities.

The meeting concluded on aggressive plan to tackle security breaches and apprehend hoodlums masterminding insecurity in the state.

These were contained in a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Oyetola, which was forwarded to Tribune Online in Osogbo on Friday.

According to the statement, the security meeting reviewed recent incidents and marshalled out a strategy to halt further attacks in any part of the state.

The statement reads, “although in depths review of the situation in the state revealed an exaggeration of the few incidents that took place, there is nevertheless the need to raise the security level.”

“Governor Gboyega Oyetola chaired the meeting which was attended by heads of security and paramilitary outfits in the state – The Police, the Army, the Air Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).”

“The Osun State government has put its full weight behind the joint security team of the police, the military and paramilitary outfits to patrol the dark spots in the state and rout out criminals from their hideouts.”

“The mandate of the joint patrol team is to support the activities of the Police Operation Puff Adder which has raised the stake in the battle against kidnapping and other forms of attacks on the people.”

“Intelligence gathering has also been stepped up to give the necessary backing to the operations of the joint patrol teams. Governor Oyetola has given the needed logistics to the security operations to guarantee success.”

“A zonal joint action against the rising spate of insecurity and criminality has also been taken by the Governors of the South West states of Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos. The governors met last Friday in Abuja to fine-tune the arrangement,” ‘the statement added.
