Late Rev Oyediran
FORMER Chairman of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN), Plc, late Reverend (Mrs) Omotola Olubunmi Oyediran has been described as a spring in the desert as a result of her positive impact on the lives of many people during her lifetime.
Delivering a sermon to mark one-year memorial service for Oyediran on Saturday at Jacob and Grace Chapel, Ido, the minister in charge of All Saints Church, Jericho, Ibadan, Venerable Oladipupo Bamidele Ajomale said “in the desert, there was a spring called Omotola Olubunmi Oyediran that made the desert beautiful.”
The clergy, who tasked the people to live an exemplary life that would be beneficial to humanity recalled that Oyediran’s demise a year ago attracted testimony galore about her exceeding kindness and love for the downtrodden.
According to Ajomale, “a year ago, Oyediran and Awolowo families lost a gem. The grief is still tense. She is at rest, sleeping peacefully. But, we acknowledge the faithfulness of God in the life of the families. We are all gathered here to give thanks to God for quality of her (Oyediran) life.”
Quoting from the holy book of Proverb 10, verse 7, he stated: “We have happy memories of the godly, but the name of the wicked rots away”, saying “how would you want to be remembered after your exit from the world. A life that is well spent is always remembered.”
Ajomale continued, “it is faith in resurrection that gathered us here today. Death is a private thing. Whenever we lost someone dear, we too die a little. It is a heart-rending experience.”
Meanwhile, speaking during a short service at her graveyard, the president, House of Politics (HOP), Alhaja Aminat Irawo said “Mama Oyetola will always live in the hearts of the people, considering her generosity and love for people, most especially the needy. Don’t sleep as you can see that Nigeria, your country is in crisis.”
The memorial service was attended by the husband of the deceased, Professor A.B.O Oyediran, her children, Mr Olumide Oyediran, Mrs Kemi Aderemi, Mrs Ayotola Ayodeji and Mrs Yemisi Subair, including the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
