Owhrode community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State now has new executive committee members, who took the oath of office to lead the community for the next three years.
The inauguration ceremony, which was held at Owhrode town hall, saw a significant turnout of community members.
The newly-appointed executive included Ogheneovo Ufuoma (president-general); Elder Sunday Ophe (vice president) and Henry Amroma (secretary).
Others are Friday Tobor (assistant secretary); Gabriel Okotie (PRO); Israel Sorhue (treasurer); Oghenechoja Moroh (financial secretary); Charles Ighoro and Tony Bateren as auditor1 and 2 respectively.
Addressing the newly-inaugurated officers, Raymond Edijala stressed the importance of collaboration with community elders to ensure peaceful coexistence.
He also cautioned against unilateral decisions regarding community properties, stressing the need for consultation with elders to uphold traditional values.
Similarly, Elder Okorode, speaking on behalf of the Union of Communities (UUC), urged the new executive to prioritise effective communication to foster openness and unity among community members.
In response, the spokesperson of the new executive, Sorhue, expressed gratitude to the elders for facilitating a peaceful inauguration and thanked the community for their support.
He pledged the new community leadership’s intention to work towards attracting development projects and fostering unity among the 12 ancestral families within the community.
He promised that the executive will implement measures to curb juvenile delinquency, cultism and other antisocial behaviours in the community.
