Over 1,000 people trained on skills acquisition in Eket

Over 1000 people of Eket extraction in Akwa Ibom State have been trained in different fields of endeavour, including media practice within the last 17 months of the present administration by the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South senatorial district, Ekong Sampson.

The latest in the series was the over 100 journalists and aspiring media professionals in Eket senatorial district engaged in a training workshop on ICT and Effective Media Communication.

The need for the media training according to Senator Sampson was for media practitioners from the senatorial district to sharpen their skills and upgrade their knowledge to meet up with the digital journalism practice demands.

Notable tutors of media and communication, including the Dean of Communication and Media Studies, University of Uyo, Professor Peter Esuh, former Media Adviser to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr Udeme Nana and communication scholar, Dr Abasifreke Idiong were on hand to drilled the media professionals.

Represented by the Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Chief Chris Abasieyo, Senator Sampson said the programme which is in line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, is aimed at improving the lives of his constituents in Akwa Ibom South senatorial district.

He said that over 1000 people are expected to be accommodated in series of training programmes, which cover media, mining, tailoring, confectionery, advocacy, ICT, among others.

He said the periodic training initiative is in accordance with his commitment to deepening human capacity development and enhance skills and productivity of his people and lauded Governor Eno for his education development programmes in the state.

He hinted that through various empowerment programmes, infrastructural development initiatives and policy reforms, he had been steadfast in his efforts by improving the lives of his people, from education support to business empowerment, job creation and healthcare initiatives.

The workshop afforded media professionals to update their skills to meet up with current demands, understand the place of AI and the proper way of utilisation of content creation for media marketing and promotional activities.

Nigerian Tribune reports that beyond the workshop and capacity enhancement programmes, Senator Sampson’s Bill for the establishment of a Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi has scaled through second reading, while the senator has also sponsored a Bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Akwa Ibom South, among others.
