Our crime-fighting strategies paying off — IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun on Tuesday said that the crime-fighting strategies of the Nigeria Police Force under his watch to provide safe and secured public space for the citizens to engage in their means of livelihood are paying off.

Egbetokun disclosed this at a meeting with senior Police officers from the rank of Commissioners of Police and above and other strategic Police managers held at the Force Headquarters Abuja

The IGP who added that the Police had carried out massive onslaught against crimes and criminality in all the nooks and crannies of the nation with successes enjoined all the citizens and aliens to volunteer credible information that would aid the arrest of other criminals in the country.

The Police high command, he said, has recorded many achievements in its crime fighting and that the force had successfully dislodged organized criminal syndicates in the country in their various hideouts.

According to him, “a total of 979 criminal suspects have been arrested by the Police detectives and tactical operatives from which 575 firearms and 443 assorted rifles were recovered even as 363 kidnap victims were safely rescued and reunited with their families.”

He also said that the plans by the Police authorities to engage and mobilize the services of 40,000 Police personnel was ongoing and added that the Police force was capable of ensuring the safety and security of the nation and its citizens and the protection of the civic space.

He commended the Police managers especially Commissioners and their supervising authorities at the states and zonal commands of the force for their peaceful handling of the Nigerian workers’ protest over the removal of fuel subsidy by the government as well as the labour leaders for their maturity.

He directed that henceforth all the State Commissioners of Police should ensure that such protests were peaceful in their states even as he expressed happiness that no casualty was recorded during the last nationwide protest.

The IGP while assuring the public of the readiness of the Police to the protection of the lives and properties of every citizen and foreigner, enjoined the Police authorities at the states to activate the Police Complain Response Toll lines for the purposes of addressing injustices.
