The Pioneer Students’ Association of Holy Apostolic High School, Ikole-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, has been called upon to see to some of the needs of the school.
The call was made at the weekend by the school principal, Mrs. Bridget Bola Kelani, during a meeting held with the representatives of the association.
In the meeting attended by the principal, the vice, Mrs. Oyekemi Omodele Momoh and other management staff, it was made known that though the students are not lagging in academically, there was acute lack of facilities that could make learning a lot easier.
According to Mrs Kelani, facilities like a well-stocked library, well-equipped laboratory, adequately conditioned computer room and a well-renovated school hall are some of the things that are lacking in the school
“We also need the school to be fenced. This will put an end to the problem of encroachment we are facing at present.
“The Home Economics laboratory is not adequate, and most of the classrooms need their ceilings repaired. We call on the association to please look into some of these problems.
I’m appealing to you as the pioneer students and the general body of old students association of this school to come and rescue the school from diminishing,” the principal said.
Responding, the representatives, Mr Dare Abe, Mrs Temitope Adewumi-Oniyelu and Mr. Bayo Oloniluyi, who paid a courtesy visit to the school, were not happy due to the condition of the institution.
Speaking about their visit, the representatives said that their mission to the school was to know the area where the pioneer students could be of help, adding that the growth and development of their alma mater is paramount to them.
They further stressed that the needs for the school are enormous but cannot be provided at once.
While going round the school premises, the representatives discovered that all what the principal told them about the state condition of the school were nothing but the truth.
“Our alma mater did not have a functional modern-day library equipped with current textbooks and instructional materials to aid teaching and learning as well as a modern-day laboratory that meets the needs of the contemporary period.
“The available computer room is not equipped with functional air conditioning or fans to make it conducive for learning,” the representatives said.
They promised, on behalf of the entire pioneer students, to contribute their quota where necessary so as to alleviate the plights of the students.
They also promised to have a meeting with the Elese of Ikole-Ekiti, Chief Alaba Olanipekun to discuss with him about the encroachment on the school land.
The representatives appreciated the principal and the entire management on the students’ academic performance, even with about 500 in population.
The representatives also used the occasion to draw the attention of the Ekiti State government, under Governor Biodun Oyabanji, to the infrastructural decay of the school.
