Otti condoles Army as hoodlums kill one soldier in Aba

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has expressed his condolence to the Nigerian Army over the killing of a soldier Friday night in Aba.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kazie Uko, Otti “has been made aware of an incident that occurred at the Milverton area of Aba, on Friday evening, involving men of the Nigeria Army and some criminal elements.

“The incident, according to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, Mr. Chukwunenye Alajemba, left a soldier dead and another wounded, and currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

“The Governor wishes to commiserate with the Nigeria Army over this unfortunate occurrence and commends the officers and men of the force for exercising restraint in the face of this unprovoked attack”.

The governor specifically thanked the Commander 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier General O.O. Diya, for his prompt intervention and ensuring that peace continues to prevail in the city of Aba and called on the general public to remain calm and adviced residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear, “and to cooperate with relevant security agencies by providing them with useful information as they work to fish out the perpetrators of this heinous attack”.

It would be recalled that soldiers Saturday took to the streets in Aba metropolis to vent their anger over the killing of the soldier by yet-to-be-identified assailants at Aba.

Information has it that the soldier was killed and his colleague wounded late Friday evening while seeking for pleasure outside their barracks.

The incident, it was said happened around Milverton Avenue leading to Aba main park.

As a result of the anger of the military, therefore, there was pandemonium in the area as shops closed for fear of victimization.

The mission of the late soldier and his colleague at that area infested with call girls could not be immediately ascertained.
