#OsunDecides2018: Protesters storm INEC office in Osogbo, denounce Thursday’s rerun poll

SCORES of demonstrators on Monday in Osogbo stormed the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to protest the plan by the electoral body to conduct a rerun poll in Orolu, Ife South, Ife North, and Osogbo local government on Thursday.

The protesters, who took over the frontage of INEC office, located opposite the Osun State House of Assembly Complex for almost one hour described the declaration of last Saturday’s governorship poll in Osun as illegal and unconstitutional.

But, heavily armed security agents of the Nigeria Police and operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS), were on ground to maintain law and order while the protest lasted.

The spokesperson of the protesters, Comrade Adisa Adebayo, who spoke to journalists said “we have already seen the PDP candidate leading with 353 votes yet he was not declared. In Ekiti, some election results were canceled but INEC went on to announce Fayemi, even in Kogi State. What we want is our mandate in Osun State.”

Another leader of the protest, Mr Rudwan Abimbola appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene, contending that “we must not have it this bad in this country to the extent we can’t trust the electoral body. The needful must be done. The should give the mandate to whom the mandate belong.

The protesters later boarded commercial buses that conveyed them to the main gate of INEC and left the premises.
