THE Nigeria Police, on Saturday, arrested and paraded three suspected voter buyers in the Osun State governorship election.

The suspects, according to the police, are: MuriatOlalekan, 61,Hamzat Muniru,65 and AdeagboWasiu.

A statement issued by the force spokesman, acting DCP JimohMoshood in Abuja, said that the suspects were allegedly arrested in the act of vote buying.

He said the voter buyers arrest followed the deployment of operatives of IGP Monitoring Unit and the Intelligence Response Team of the Force.

The spokesman said that the sum of N720, 000 was recovered from the suspects.

He said the investigation into the cases was ongoing and the suspected voter buyers would be arraigned on completion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state, Mr Olusegun Agbaje confirmed the arrest of two individuals for alleged vote-buying in the Iwo axis of Osun West Senatorial District.

The development came as a leader of one of the opposition parties was reportedly apprehended in Osogbo for inducing voters with cash.

Confirming the arrests in Iwo, Agbaje, who spoke on with Sunday Tribune said: “two persons were arrested in Iwo. That is the reports we got from our field officers. We are still waiting for the full details.”

He, however, lauded the conduct of the exercise, describing the turnout as very impressive, adding that from  some of the communities visited in the local governments, majority of the eligible voters trooped out very early to perform their civic responsibilities.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Police to the total arrests made relating to alleged votes buying and selling in will were successful, as calls put through to the phone of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, were not picked, neither did he respond to a text message forwarded to his mobile phone.
