Gov Adeleke
The Great Ife Students’ Union under the leadership of Comrade Abass Akinremi Ojo has written an open letter to the Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke on the deteriorating state of Ede road, especially from Modomo to Mayfair roundabout.
The road which has been in deplorable condition over the years, has caught the eyes of the union officers who have decided to swing into action by writing an open letter to the State Governor.
In the open letter forwarded to the office of the Deputy Governor of the state, Ministry of Works and Transportation, Tribune CampusXtra gathered, the union expressed the plight and suffering of the Great IFE students.
According to the open letter, the union appreciates the governor’s giant stride in the welfare and delivery of projects of the state since his assumption into office.
However, it further highlights the safety hazards posed by the affected roads. Which are; Potholes, cracks, and uneven surfaces are not only damaging to vehicles but also pose a significant risk to the safety of motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. These road conditions increase the likelihood of accidents and injuries, putting the lives of students at risk. The union therefore implores that urgent action is needed to ensure the safety of everyone who utilises these roads.
Drawing the attention of the state governor to the level of neglect these roads have received from the past administration and even with this administration is sardonic, Shambolic, and painful because the union believes that Great Ife students deserve no such punishment from the present-day government.
Consequently, these roads have not only become death traps,’. It is now a suicidal mission for motorists to ply the crater-riddled and gully-infested roads.
The union leaders stated further that the poor state of the roads has a detrimental impact on the local economy, as businesses in the university community heavily rely on transportation for the movement of goods and services.
It was also gathered the students are not the only ones affected by the current road conditions, as businesses now find it difficult to operate efficiently, resulting in price hike.
The union further charged the state governor on the establishment of a dedicated task force or committee to oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of road maintenance projects, as this would ensure transparency, accountability, and timely completion of the necessary repairs.
“Engaging with local engineering and construction firms could also provide valuable expertise and support in this endeavor,” the union stated.
The union, however, appealed to Governor Adeleke to come to their aid, as they hoped for a productive and progressive response from him.
