Osun: Protesters observe Jumat service on road

As end governance protests enter the second day in the country, the protesters in Osun state on Friday turned the protesting ground at the Olaiya junction, Osogbo, the state capital into a praying worship center.

The protesters who resumed at the junction as early as 9.00 a.m of the day, where they converged saw, Muslim fateful observing their Jumat service and solad .

The prayer which lasted about 20 minutes, cripple vehicular movements for a while, as many motorists could not moved to their various destinations.

However, there are security operatives on the ground to maintain law ond ensure orderliness takes place through out the protests.

The protesters who came out in large numbers, vowed not to relent until president Ahmed Bola Tinubu administration listen and find a lasting solution to all their demands.

They maintained that, “We want the Federal Government to address myriads of challenges confronting the nation and should endeavor to embark on massive investment in the public works and industrialization that will help employ Nigeria’s teeming Youths in the society.

“We are not afraid of anybody. What we have come to do is to exercise our rights according to the constitution of Nigeria. We are here to establish what we are passing through. Many people are saying, we should not come out but here we are , to express our grievances.

“What we are fighting for is for the people. Petrol price is N800 today. It is not a question of either APC or PDP. What we are passing through in this country is affecting everybody.

“Tinubu should review the country policies. We are hungry. The protest is going to last for ten days. We are going to review our own in Osun because of Osun-Osogbo festival.”

Armed with placards and banners with different inscriptions that read, ” We want food price control with immediate effect,” “Revert fuel price to Pre-May 29, 2023 price,” “Local Government is the key to national and economic development,” among others while security operatives accompanied them, while ensuring there is no break down of law and order.

The aggrieved youths expressed their angers against bad governance and battered economy in the country and charged president Tinubu to act fast to alleviate people sufferings.

Speaking with newsmen on behalf of the protesters, the coordinator of Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens, Comrade Ajala Adetunji called for reinstatement of corruption -free subsidy regime to reduce hunger, starvation and multidimensional poverty.

Adetunji said: “Hunger, poverty and bad policy that is affecting all of us. We are here not because of any political affiliation, not because anybody is given a dime, what we have seen is a function of the people and the community that we belonged to.

“The youth population is the largest population and they are the one suffering most. The office of the citizen is the highest office in the land.

“We are not afraid of anybody. What we have come to do is to exercise our rights. According to the constitution of Nigeria, we are here to establish what we are passing through. Many people are saying we should not come out. Why are they saying that.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Committee for Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) Emmanuel Olowu noted that it was high time for federal government to probe past and present Nigeria leaders who have looted the Treasury, recover their loot, and deposited it in a special account to fund education, healthcare, and Infrastructure.O

Olowu stressed that, “government should endeavor to embark on massive investment in the public works and industrialization that will help employ Nigeria’s teeming youths.

“This administration should invest in education and give Nigeria students grants, not loans with aggressively pursue free and compulsory education for children across Nigeria.”

The CDHR chairman further maintained that, “it is high time for federal government to probe past and present Nigeria leaders who have looted the country Treasury. They should recover their loots, and deposited it in a special account to fund education, healthcare, and Infrastructures.”
