Authorities of the Osun State Police Command have arrested one of the suspected kidnappers of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Olayinka Adegbeingbe.

Adegbeingbe, a professor of orthopaedic and surgery was abducted around Ikoyi, Osun State in May, 2019 and a ransom of N5million was paid by his family before he could regain his freedom after spending a day in the kidnappers’ den.

Parading some suspects before journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday at the headquarters of the state Police command, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Abiodun Ige said no stone would be left unturned in ridding the state of criminality.

The paraded suspects are Hussman Ladan from Sokoto, Samaila Gede, Kemu Rejuli from Niger and Jubril Mohammed.

The CP did not mention the name of one of the arrested suspected kidnapper of the OAU don. He said other members of the gang were still at large adding that one victim, who was abducted alongside Professor Adegbehingbe identified the suspect.

According to Ige, “the command through the operation Puff Adder in collaboration with the community policing got reliable information that led to the arrest of some hoodlums who have been terrorising the Ikire axis and one of the kidnap suspect of Professor Adegbehingbe and one Alfa Sure.

Also paraded were some suspected student cultists, who were nabbed during the preparation of their annual event called 7/7.

Ige further explained that 7/7 was a day members of different cult groups clash, which is the 7th of July, saying the cultists were rounded up after a tip-off before the day.
